Fresno fire chief arrested for domestic violence

Fresno County sheriff's deputies arrested Fresno Fire Chief James Robert Brown on charges of domestic violence and criminal threats.
Fresno County sheriff's deputies arrested Fresno Fire Chief James Robert Brown on charges of domestic violence and criminal threats.

Deputies were called to Brown's northwest Fresno residence after 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night for reports of violence against family members.

When officers arrived, they found Brown in his front yard and say he was visibly intoxicated and uncooperative.

Brown faces charges of assaulting and threatening to kill family members.

During his struggle with family members, Brown was pepper sprayed more than once in an attempt to subdue him.

Brown was taken into custody and booked into the Fresno County Jail. He is now out on bail.

The Fresno Fire Department released the following statement on Thursday: "The situation concerning the Fire Chief is a personnel matter, and as such, we defer all inquiries to the City Manager's office. We ask the public to refrain from speculation during the process."
