Republican farmer Andy Vidak won the 16th District seat vacated by Democrat Michael Rubio.
There were five candidates in the Special Election on Tuesday, May 21st, but only Democrat Leticia Perez presented a challenge, capturing 41.7% of the vote.
Vidak received 51.9%, which is more than the 50% required to avoid a runoff election.
Perez, a Kern County Supervisor, conceded Wednesday morning. In a statement, Perez said: "I want to congratulate Andy Vidak on winning this hard-fought race. I am humbled and honored that so many people encouraged and supported me during the campaign with their time, energy and dedication. I will continue to work on behalf of Central Valley residents and families and share my message of hope with them."
