Eight people are injured after a vehicle crashed into the AAA office at Shaw and Forkner in Northwest Fresno Monday around 12:30 p.m.

A 66-year-old woman accelerated about 30 feet into the building while she was trying to reverse, according to Sgt. Gary Beer with the Fresno Police Department.

The injuries range from cuts to a broken arm and leg.

Beer says the driver was not suffering from any known medical conditions at the time of the accident.

Monday afternoon, crews backed out the vehicle, taking the same path it used to come in.

Beer says the driver was parked in a handicap stall and was trying to reverse, but she hit the gas and drove forward into the building.

"Moved a large cement trash can, and went through several plate glass windows and obviously a lot of people," Beer says.

Three employees and five customers, including the driver, were hurt.

The injuries include cuts from broken glass, swelling, a broken arm and leg. But it could've been much worse.

"There's a possibility that she would've travelled farther back into the building. I'm not sure if she applied the brakes or if the pole stopped her," Beer says.

The vehicle pushed desks and other office equipment out of the way. Fortunately, no one was pinned underneath.

Inside, the employees were dealing with the mess. The assistant manager was too overwhelmed to speak on camera.

Many unsuspecting customers didn't realize what was going on until they walked right up.

"You think of a car insurance, automobile insurance company, and here's the accident in the lobby," says customer Bruce Addison, pointing out the irony.

"I had an appointment with my real estate agent today. Looks like I won't have it," says John Griffin.
There's no estimate so far on the financial amount of damage caused.
