Lemoore City Councilor Faces Backlash After Tweeting Kendrick Lamar Lyrics

Lemoore, Calif. -- Mayor Ray Madrigal of Lemoore is speaking out against City Council Member
Holly Andrade Blair after she tweeted rapper Kendrick Lamar's lyrics.

"It is not about rap music. It comes down to that we are elected officials, we have a code of conduct," said Mayor Madrigal.

One of her tweets reads,"If she be hatin' tell that expletive to let it go." Another reads, "get the expletive off my expletive, that ain't right."

At an April 17th City Council meeting, Blair's conduct was on the agenda.

"We want to be out on record that we don't agree with it," said Madrigal.

Blair said they are just trying to silence her.

"They don't like what I'm saying, so they are going to throw civility in my face," said Holly Andrade Blair, City Councilor.

Blair is also a Professor at West Hills College. She said Lamar's lyrics are a work of art.

"I'm not the only one to say that, it's not easy to win the Pulitzer Prize," said Blair.

Also at the meeting, councilors discussed Blair's texts to Lemoore's Police Chief.

"I used the acronym 'WTF.' That's how I talk to my friends," said Blair.

She said she texted this after she felt targeted by police. She was pulled over by police multiple times, allegedly for speeding.

"People deserve more from their elected officials," said Madrigal.

Mayor Madrigal said it is just up to the voters to decide what comes next. Blair adds that she will continue to speak up.

"I'm confident I know where the community stands on these issues," said Blair.

The next city council meeting is on Tuesday. Blair's conduct is not on the agenda.
