Lawn businesses benefiting from 'Uber' lawn care app

The GreenPal app has recently expanded to the Fresno market

FRESNO, California - If your yard needs some work -- there's now an app to help you. The GreenPal app is described as an Uber-style app to help homeowners find the best lawn work specialists for their needs.

While it's making things more convenient for homeowners, the app's creators say it's more beneficial for the local businesses using the app.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Service Professional Lawn Care has been keeping yards in Kerman groomed for nearly 20 years. Owner and operator Ted Furnish said they've had clients since 1999, when the business started.

Over the years, Furnish has worked to get the business' name out there: getting a tie-dye trailer and making a business Facebook page. But, Furnish said GreenPal is now helping even more.

"It's allowing us to get new bids, new customers," he said. "It's allowing us to provide excellent service around the communities of Fresno, Madera and Kerman."

Once you make an account on GreenPak, businesses can make bids to work on your property. The app has you input your address, so it can upload Google images for businesses to see. You can also check out reviews and images of their work.

"Normally, to get four or five bids from anybody, you'd have to meet them at your property. You'd have to probably talk to them a couple times and stuff like that," said GreenPal co-founder Gene Caballero.

The app is free to download. There's a Fresno-area specific web version of GreenPal, you can find it here.
