Lady Bikers of California

FRESNO, Calif. - A group of women in Fresno are proving motorcycle groups are not just for men. The Lady Bikers of California is an all-female group that was started in the Central Valley. This weekend they met for the third year in a row to ride together - giving new meaning to the phrase "biker babe".

Clovis native Terri Hendricks is the brain child behind Lady Bikers of California. She started the Facebook group three years ago, with the message being female empowerment.

"They can do things on their own. They don't always need a man to go places with them," stated Hendricks.

Hendricks had been riding with mainly male motorcycle groups, and found there weren't any female groups for her to join. So, she decided to make one herself. Never did she think her idea would take off as fast as her bike.

She said, "I've noticed that there were more women, I mean years ago there weren't, and I rode alone. And I noticed I could be passing women and I'd be like, where are they going? I'm going grocery shopping, I wonder where are they going?"

Now the group has grown to more than 1,000 members across the state. And every first weekend in May, the ladies get together for a "girls ride out".

On Saturday night, the ladies held a dinner at the Ramada Inn in Fresno to celebrate their weekend. All the proceeds raised at the dinner will go to the Rape Counseling Services of Fresno.
