Kids receive free school supplies before the new school year

FRESNO, Calif. - Hundreds of Valley children are ready for the new school year.

West Fresno Family Resources along with sponsors provided about 1,500 students with new backpacks full of school supplies.

It was the 15th annual Back to School Health Fair at Maxie L. Parks Community Center.

Kids not only got backpacks but free haircuts and job readiness information.

Thirty-five vendors were on hand providing resources to families.

"Really the goal of this event is that we want our kids ready for school on Monday," said Yolanda Randles, West Family Resource Center. "We want them to look good, with their fresh haircuts. We want to make sure they at least have a pencil and a piece of paper to write with."

No one left hungry. Sponsors grilled up 2,000 hamburgers for those who attended.
