The catholic Central Valley community made its way to St Anthony's of Padua Wednesday, for a funeral mass dedicated to Father Bert Mello.
Father Bert as many knew him served as a vicar for a couple of years at St. Anthony's of Padua in Fresno.
Before being relocated as a pastor to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bakersfield in 2016.
He died suddenly in his sleep last Wednesday at the age of 64.
Among those who attended the mass was Cecily Luongo who traveled from Bakersfield with her husband to say her final goodbye to the priest who fulfilled one of her seven sacraments.
"The world is going to miss a man who was on fire for the lord he wanted everybody to know how much God loved us."
Isabel and Charles Luongo, made the two hour trip from Bakersfield to Fresno with their daughter in law and say till this day they have not met someone with the same charisma that Father Mello had.
"My son converted to Catholicism he baptized my son and he was going to do his confirmation with him he really gave him a chance," said Isabel Luongo.
"I can't wait to meet him in heaven I can't wait to see him there," concluded Cecily Luongo.
