Hundreds attend Quinceanera Expo at Fresno Fairgrounds

FRESNO, Calif. - It was all sparkle and tulle at the Fresno Fairgrounds. For many it was all part of young girls prepping for their big milestone birthday.

Hundreds of young girls and their families lined up to see what the 2018 Quinceanera Expo had to offer.

Once inside it was everything sparkle and sweet.

"She'll turn 15 next year and we're super excited just to kind of get started, you have to start early, take a year to plan," Jennifer Quiroz, a mother, said.

A quinceanera is a celebration of turning 15, much like Sweet 16.

Organizers said it's a big milestone in a young Hispanic girls life.

"It's a time where she becomes from a nina to a senorita, a young lady, it's a celebration that she becomes a women," Edgar Reyes, emcee for 2018 Quinceanera Expo, said.

So, for many it's a time to go all out.

"It's pretty much like a mini wedding," Maribel Moncayo, another mother, said.

Quinceanera Magazine brought more than 60 of the top vendors, from cake, table décor and flowers, to music, dance floors, even the transportation.

But it's the dress and tiara, that makes this moment special for mother and daughter.

"It's emotional, it's very important and it's just you know, another milestone,"  Moncayo said.

"I never got to have a quinceanera," Quiroz said. "So, I'm kind of living my dream through her and just excited for her to have her day."

The soon-to-be senoritas said it's a moment they're looking forward to.

"I can't wait to have it," Mia Meno, a teen, said.

"I just want to like celebrate my 15th birthday and have fun with my friends," Magdalena Quiroz, a teen, said.

But with all the must haves, comes cost. Parents said like a wedding, it can cost thousands of dollars.

"Things can get very expensive so set your budget, don't go over it," Quiroz said.
