Handicapped woman killed in Hanford house fire

HANFORD, California - The Kings County Fire Department is investigating a house fire that resulted in the death of an elderly woman.

Fire crews responded to a house fire on the 11500 block of Jones st. in Hanford around 9:30 a.m. on June 12th.

Once crews arrived they say the house was fully engulfed in flames, some reaching upwards of 25 feet in the air.

It took crews from the Kings County Fire Department and the Hanford Fire Department nearly two hours to extinguish the entire fire. They were able to stop the flames from spreading to nearby homes.

Once the fire was out crews discovered the remains of the handicapped home owner inside. Officials have identified her as 59-year-old Shelia Montgomery.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
