Fresno Yosemite International Airport to receive $9.1 million federal grant

FRESNO, California -

The U.S Department of Transportation announced it's awarding Fresno Yosemite International Airport a $9.1 million grant.

The grant will fund infrastructure projects like runways, taxiways, aprons, and terminals.

Officials say these projects are important to the safety and efficiency of the nation's system of airports.

"If you want a strong transportation system, you have to invest in airport infrastructure. Airports are the backbone of aviation. These communities are going to reap greater safety, efficiency, and economic dividends for years to come," said U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.

Fresno is one of nearly 200 airports across the country receiving the grant to improve airport safety.

This comes as a new parking expansion project is also in the works at Fresno Yosemite International. 750 new parking spaces are expected to be added by May 2019.
