FRESNO, California - UPDATE: After nearly 5 hours of searching through a shopping complex and the Dominion Courtyard Apartments in Northeast Fresno, police have called off the search for child in a possible abduction.
"We do not have evidence that would support any type of a child abduction occurring today," said Chief Jerry Dyer.
According to Dyer the two witnesses, a 17 year old and a 14 year old in a van, gave conflicting information. He says looking into one of the witnesses and their history they have reason to believe their report is less than credible.
Police say the pink scooter has been identified by a woman, who says she threw it out on Sunday.
Fresno police are on scene of a possible kidnapping in Northeast Fresno.
Police are searching between Cedar and Shepherd for a child.
Chief Jerry Dyer has described the child as a white female between the age of 8 to 10; with brown medium length hair. Police say she was wearing a purple sweater, pink T-shirt and royal blue pants.
A caller told police that a man, which appeared to be a dark Hispanic or an African American walked up behind the female and grabbed her from behind. Police say the girl struggled to get away from the man. police say she was on or near a pink scooter when she was grabbed. Police have located the pink scooter at the scene.
Police have not received any report of a missing person or child. Police say they have very limited information on the child. They are now going door to door to homes and neighborhoods in the area to speak to people and locate any surveillance video.
