Fowler shooting suspect arrested, Fresno Sheriff says

FOWLER, California - A Fowler man was arrested Tuesday night after the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said he shot a woman and pistol whipped a teen earlier in the day.

Julian Josue Pacheco, 18, was taken into custody around 11 p.m.

Around 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Fowler Police received a 911 call from a screaming woman who was on the 400 block of 4th Street. When officers arrived on scene, they found a 21-year-old woman who had been shot and a 17-year-old girl with injuries from being pistol whipped, the Sheriff's Office said.

Fowler’s police chief requested Fresno County Sheriff’s detectives take over the investigation.

Detectives learned that the victims and suspect knew each other. There was a dispute over some possible stolen property, the Sheriff's Office said.

Pacheco and another man had gone to confront the victims about it at their residence on 4th Street in Fowler. For unknown reasons, Pacheco pulled out a handgun and began firing at one of the victims, the Sheriff's Office said.

One bullet struck the woman, and Pacheco then pistol whipped the girl, the Sheriff's Office said. Both men left the scene before officers arrived. Both women were taken to the hospital where they were treated and released later in the day.

Detectives interviewed several witnesses and were able to identify Pacheco as the shooter. Detectives spoke with his family members -- who tried to get Pacheco to turn himself in.

Around 11 p.m., detectives saw Pacheco arriving to his house on the 1500 block of Ruby Avenue in Fowler, and they took him into custody, the Sheriff's Office said. Detectives determined the man who was with Pacheco during the shooting was not responsible for committing any crime.

Pacheco was been booked into the Fresno County Jail on felony charges of attempted murder and assault with a firearm. His bail has been set at $535,000.

Anyone with information on this shooting should call the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office at (559) 600-3111 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.
