Fowler church temporally closed after fire

FOWLER, Calif. -
A fire at a local church in Fowler leaves its congregation without a place to worship this Christmas.
"It's kind of emotional," said Maybelle Easter Roberts the administrator for the Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ.
The memories of Roberts childhood quickly burned to ashes after a fire broke out at the church on Mariposa Street at five Monday morning.
"Waking up out of a sound sleep and hearing that was quite scary," said Roberts.
Roberts said for nearly 70 years her family and friends have been worshiping at the church.
"When we were children my dad established this and he established the neighborhood," said Roberts.
And now she said a place that is meant to be an asset to the community is charred and closed until further notice.
"It was predominantly held to the main entrance here, there's some water damage throughout the ceiling and smoke damage throughout and a big hole in the roof," said Roberts.
The City of Fowler, Chief Manuel Lopez said the cause was merely electrical issues.
"We called an investigator out to investigate and make sure there was no foul play and there's none," said Lopez.
Roberts said she's are glad it did not happen during one of their services and thanks God that no one was hurt.
"I'm just so grateful that it isn't more extensive than it is," said Roberts.
She said even though they will not be able to have a Christmas service this weekend, she knows they will move forward.
"Gods service must go on," said Roberts.
Roberts said an insurance adjuster will inspect and let them no the cost of damage.
She said if anyone is looking to donate to make checks out to Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ and send it to 4698 East Huntsman Ave, Fowler, CA 93625.
