Former Fresno Church Worker Arrested On Child Porn Charges

Man Reportedly Gave Puppet Shows For Church Children

The Pastor of a Fresno Church is speaking out after a former worker was on charges of child pornography.  Investigators say 27-year old Forrest Awbrey used his job as a Sunday School teacher to try to take advantage of young girls.  Awbrey worked at First Church Of God near First and Dakota in Fresno.   That's where FBI agents say he used a hidden camera to try to take inappropriate photos of young girls in the church restroom.  The FBI says that those efforts were not successful.
According to a criminal complaint,  Awbrey worked at the church as a part time janitor and Sunday School teacher.   Court documents state that Awbrey also tried taking pictures of the girls private areas while he gave Biblical puppet shows.
Senior Pastor Greg Kendall says Awbrey was fired immediately after he learned the investigation was underway. It began back in 2016.  Awbrey's mother worked as the coordinator of the children's program.  She has since resigned. "This family was loved by our church.. I think everyone is saddened", says Pastor Kendall.
Investigators say the found more than 17 hundred images of child pornography when they went through Awbrey's electronic devices.  According to the affidavit Awbrey admitted to downloading the images, and then expressed remorse for having done so.   Pastor Kendall says Awbrey passed a background check to work at the church, but says they plan to enhance their screening procedures. " But we are now going to increase frequency to probably every other year that everyone has to have their background check renewed", says Pastor Kendall.
Awbrey is now in the Fresno County Jail.  No bail amount has been listed.
