Firebaugh woman charged after victim ran over, killed with vehicle during large fight

MERCED, Calif. - A Firebaugh woman was arrested Sunday on murder charges after police say she ran over and killed a woman -- and hit several vehicles -- during a fight in Merced, the Merced Police Department said.

Officers were dispatched around 7 p.m. to Martin Luther King Boulevard and 19th Street about a large fight in progress.

As officers were being dispatched to the scene, they received information that a female suspect in a red car just ran over someone and also hit several vehicles with the car as she was attempting to leave the scene, police said.

Officers found a woman lying in the street needing medical attention, and they spotted a vehicle with a large amount of damage.

Witnesses told officers that Ashley Sanders, 25, who was driving the damaged vehicle, had just ran over the victim with her car and left the scene.

Emergency medical services arrived and transported the victim, Tiarra Gallashaw, 20, to a Modesto area hospital where she died. Gallashaw lived in the neighborhood, police said.

Officers described the scene has being very chaotic, and a large group had gathered in the street.

Sanders was taken into custody without incident.

Crime scene investigators spent several hours at the scene, interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence. The suspect struck more than one vehicle with her car during the incident, police said. Sanders was booked into the Merced County Jail on charges of first degree murder.
