FRESNO, Calif. - Monday marks one year since a pregnant mother was fatally shot inside her central Fresno apartment. Amber Baker's four-month-old son was asleep in a crib nearby.
Friends and family lit candles, listened to music and wrote messages on posters to remember Amber Baker, 20.
Baker was found shot dead in an apartment complex on Griffith near Blackstone on Feb. 26, 2017.
"She was a beautiful girl," said Amber's mom, Marcie Greer. "She made me laugh all the time. She didn't deserve this."
Greer said she's taken it upon herself to search for her daughter's killer.
"It's been really hard. I've been... out on the streets looking for him myself," said Greer.
Fresno police have contacted three main people they were looking for, but they're still trying to track down one more person.
"We still have one outstanding subject who has an arrest warrant in the system for murder, that's Gabriel Garza," said Fresno Police Sergeant Larry Bowlan.
Police believe Garza is still living in the Fresno area. Police said one of the men allegedly inside the apartment at the time of the murder, was Amber's boyfriend. But they have not yet released a motive for the shooting.
"I've known Amber her entire life and it's like losing one of my own," said family friend, Jamia Lowenthal.
Family and friends say justice can't come soon enough.
"We're all just still troubled. Really wanting justice for Amber," Lowenthal said.
Fresno police want justice, too. "This one is very near to our hearts," Sgt. Bowlan said.
For the last year, Greer has had one question for her daughter's killer.
"Why did you have to take my daughter's life?" said Greer.
Anyone with any information on Amber's murder is asked to call Fresno PD or Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP.
