Falling tree smashes cars in Sequoia National Park

A tree fell in Sequoia National Park and landed on four parked vehicles this week, the National Park Service said.

On Tuesday around 12:45 p.m., a Jeffrey Pine tree landed on the vehicles parked in Lodgepole Market’s employee parking lot.

The tree was approximately 150 feet tall and 38 inches in diameter.

There were no injuries to staff or visitors.

The NPS is reminding visitors to maintain situational awareness when hiking, camping, and traveling through Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and should avoid spending prolonged periods under dead or partly dead trees or branches.
