Poster for Elvis North Carolina show sells for over $42,000
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A rare vintage poster for a 1955 Elvis Presley show in North Carolina has sold at auction for more than double the expected price. The News & Observer of Raleigh reports the poster for a show on May 19, 1955, in Raleigh sold this month for $42,500. Giles Moon of Texas-based Heritage Auctions says he had expected the poster to sell for about $20,000.

Library of Congress brings America to life in LA photo show
LOS ANGELES (AP) - If a picture tells a thousand words, the Library of Congress is bringing 440,000 of them to Los Angeles with a free-wheeling photo exhibition that seeks to define America's zeitgeist in a way people have never seen. "Not An Ostrich: And Other Images From America's Library," which opened Saturday at the Annenberg Space For Photography, takes visitors on a picturesque journey across the country beginning with the birth of photography and continuing to the present day.

Record Store Day: Vinyl, CDs outsell digital music
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Music lovers are paying homage to their local record stores. Record Store Day, which is celebrated Saturday from coast to coast, celebrates the brick-and-mortar spot where people have long gathered to thumb through vinyl records. Chris Brown from Maine's Bull Moose Music hatched the idea in 2007. Brown wanted something for record stores along the lines of Free Comic Book Day. The annual event is now in its 11th year with hundreds of stores participating.

Wined and dined on multiple state visits during his tour of Asia last year, Trump is paying it forward and celebrating nearly 250 years of U.S.-French relations by playing host to President Emmanuel Macron at a glitzy White House state dinner on Tuesday. Months in the making, it's the first state visit and first big soiree of the Trump era in Washington.

Police: Stalker broke into Taylor Swift's NYC home, took nap
NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a stalker broke into Taylor Swift's New York City townhouse and took a nap. Police say officers investigating a reported break-in Friday found 22-year-old Roger Alvarado asleep in the pop star's home in the Tribeca neighborhood. Alvarado, of Homestead, Florida, was arrested on charges of stalking, burglary, criminal mischief and trespassing. It's not clear whether he has an attorney who can speak for him.

High holiday: Pot fans join 420 smoke-out in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Thousands of marijuana enthusiasts flocked to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park for the annual April 20 high holiday that culminated with the crowd sparking up at 4:20 p.m. The gathering Friday is the first since California legalized marijuana on Jan. 1. The festival is a celebration of the number 420, stoners' code for smoking marijuana.

Boston Globe places columnist Kevin Cullen on paid leave
BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Globe has placed columnist Kevin Cullen on paid leave as an examination of his work is conducted. The newspaper said Friday it's asking a third party to conduct the probe but didn't detail what prompted it. The Globe was awarded a 2014 Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings the year before. Cullen was a finalist for commentary.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - In a story April 19 about a boy from a polygamous family who died, The Associated Press reported erroneously the family's religious affiliation. The family is fundamentalist Mormon, but do not belong to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
