VISALIA, California - "She's the best teacher."
Second grade teacher Jill Dechance warms the classroom.
Pajama day and hot chocolate are some of the things these students love about their class.
Dechance has been teaching for 29 years. 19 of them at Crestwood Elementary. She reflects on why she chose the path of education.
“Ever since I was a little girl, four years old, I just knew I wanted to be a teacher,” Jill Dechance said.
It was encouragement from her own teachers that influenced her to make a difference.
She knew she wanted to pass on that same experience.
Dechance said her focus in teaching the second grade is storytelling, building on reading skills, and exercising math.
"It's so nice to have a group of students who want to learn. I have a lot of good kids, and they all try their best,” Dechance said.
Dechance says the best part of her job is to help guide students in learning and their life...
That's what makes Jill Dechance our educator of the week.
