FRESNO, CALIFORNIA - Do you know what your kids do on social media?
Common Sense Media's latest research shows that only one-third of parents know about what their kids do on social media -- or what apps they use. Educators and law enforcement are saying what you don't know can end up costing your kid a lot.
How teens use social media has become a serious concern after numerous incidents of online bullying and more recently cases of young people posting threatening messages against schools resulting in law enforcement taking action.
"No parent should ever buy their child any type of device that could be utilized for social media without having the absolute understanding and agreement that they have the right to go through that entire phone and device any time they choose to -- to look for things that that child may be posting," Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said.
