Driver drowns after crashing into canal near Visalia, CHP says

VISALIA, Calif. - A driver from Visalia has drowned after veering off the road and crashing his Honda Accord into a canal.

It happened just after 10 p.m. Sunday near Avenue 272 and Road 140 near Visalia.

CHP officers said the driver's two adult female friends swam out of the canal, and are okay. The driver never made it out. CHP officers said the water was swift and full. Officers later recovered the man's body.

The women are from Orosi and Visalia. The CHP said they are in the process of notifying the drowning victim's family.

Alcohol may be a factor for the crash, according to CHP Sergeant Michael Wolfe.
