Arrest Made in Coarsegold Homicide

Madera County Sheriff says the dispute went on for a week

Coarsegold, California - Update - Madera County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the homicide that occurred March 30, 2018 on Little John Drive in Coarsegold. He 25 year old male subject detained last night for questioning by Detectives has been taken into custody. Jacob Burdett of Coarsegold has been arrested and charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. He has been transported and booked in at Madera County Department of Corrections. The identity of the decedent is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. The investigation remains ongoing.

 

Madera County Sheriff's officials are investigating a deadly shooting It happened in Coarsegold near the first road intersection of Little John and Robin Hood. The Madera County Sheriff says this shooting was the result of a family dispute that turned into a road range incident.

Investigators say a man in his 20s shot his mother and his mother's boyfriend. The man in his 40s died as a result of the shooting, the shooter's mother is being treated for a gunshot wound and was air lifted to the hospital.

The Madera Country Sheriff says the shooter in his 20s is in custody, but has not been officially charged because detectives are still working to find out more about if the shooting was in self defense.

"In terms of what led to this much craziness on Easter weekend apparently this started about a week ago it started amongst family members A portion of the family moved out of the residence that portion was apparently on their way back up here got into an altercation that resulted in the road rage I mentioned earlier and after the road rage both vehicles proceeded up the road behind me at that point they were met by some folks on foot and an altercation which resulted in the gunshots," said Madera County Sheriff Jay Varney. 

The Sheriff says he expects detectives to be working out through the night. We will work to have an update for you on air and online as it becomes available.
