DOS PALOS, Calif. - The Merced County Sheriff's Office added a homicide investigation to their workload Wednesday after authorities found a dead woman inside of a trailer in Dos Palos. The dead woman's daughter has been named as a suspect.
Around 7 a.m., Melissa Anne Bal, 37, alerted authorities of a possible dead body. Once they arrived to a property off Highway 33 and Blossom Street, they found the body of Melissa Anne Bal, 55, inside of a trailer. Melissa was covered in blood.
Melissa has since been questioned by authorities and booked into the Merced County Jail. as have the property's renter and other people living there.
Neighbors we spoke to say they've seen a lot of traffic on the property, including visits from law enforcement. However, Friday was the first time a dead body was involved.
"I don't like the idea something like that would happen so close [to me]," one neighbor said.
The sheriff's office said the two recently moved to Dos Palos and up until this morning deputies had no issues with them. Investigators processed the scene for most of the day.
"We just want to make sure the public knows we're doing what we can to investigate these crimes," said deputy Daryl Allen. "Hopefully, we can get them wrapped up pretty quickly."
Neighbors hope things don't escalate on the property.
"I wish they would take that house out because of [what is happening]," one neighbor said.
