FRESNO, Calif. - CBS47 had the only cameras at the scene as detectives arrested a northeast Fresno chiropractor Wednesday morning.
Doctor Arthur Hernandez is accused of sexually assaulting two of his patients, One of the women told police she felt Hernandez tried to intimidate her because she is an undocumented immigrant and that Hernandez told her "it was his word against hers," according to the warrant.
Hernandez was taken into custody at his office near Barstow and First, but has since bailed out of jail.
Police said the two alleged sexual assaults happened in 2016. According to an arrest warrant, one alleged victim said Hernandez touched her inappropriately sometime last year.
Another alleged victim is an undocumented immigrant, according to a warrant. She claims she went to Hernandez after a car accident. By her fourth visit, on December 21, 2016, she said Hernandez had her remove her clothes, began rubbing her legs, and allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Law enforcement leaders including Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims have encouraged undocumented immigrants who are victims of crime to come forward.
"People here, working hard, not committing crimes. They have little to fear about ICE working in jail because they'll never make their way to jail," said Mims.
The news came as a shock to others who work in the same complex as Hernandez. "We've had a few hi's and bye's," said Josh Gill. "His wife works there with him. He brings his daughter every so often. Seems like a normal family man, business man."
The Board of Chiropractic Examiners website shows Hernandez has a valid license with no prior disciplinary action.
The board issued a statement to Eyewitness News: "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Consumer protection is our number one priority. We are looking into this matter."
Hernandez has had his license for 18 years, and if convicted, he could lose his privilages to practice in California.
