Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is on Monday, and there are plenty of events leading up to -- and after -- the holiday. Here's what's going on around the Valley.

Saturday

  • Opening Garlanding Ceremony: 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Fresno County Courthouse Park at the MLK bust. It's located at 1100 Van Ness Ave.
  • Award reception honoring awardees for outstanding community service: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Fresno City Hall. It's located at 2600 Fresno St.

Sunday

  • Community breakfast with keynote speaker Mary Castro -- wife of Fresno State President Joseph Castro. It's at 9 a.m. at the Clovis Veterans Memorial Building located at 453 Hughes Ave. in Clovis.

Monday

  • Candlelight vigil: 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fresno City Hall. It's located at 2600 Fresno St.
  • Gospel celebration: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hanford Civic Auditorium. It's located at 400 N. Douty St. in Hanford.
  • Thematic Exploration Program: 2 p.m. It's at California Veterans Home located at 2811 W. California Ave.

Tuesday

  • MLK march: 10:15 a.m. It starts at Fresno City Hall located at 2600 Fresno St.
  • Commemoration program: 11 a.m. It's at the Fresno Convention Center located at 848 M St.
  • Day of Service: 10 a.m. to noon at the Visalia Rescue Mission. It's located at 741 N. Santa Fe St. in Visalia.
