Boy Shot As He Was Driving With His Father When Gunman Opened Fire

A 9-year old boy is dead after a double shooting in Madera.  It happened Sunday night at 7:20 in the area of Tozier and Olive.  The dead child has been identified as Leonard Morales.
Police say he was in a car with his father driving from a Laundromat when another vehicle pulled up and an occupant opened fire. Leonardo was killed, his unidentified father was hit but his injuries are not serious. The father managed to drive to the home of his oldest son who took both Leonardo and his father to Madera Community Hospital.  The child was pronounced dead.
Madera Police Chief Dino Lawson addressed the shooting and it's devastating effect on the community. " This was a senseless shooting by thoughtless individuals. We have lost a 9-year old innocent child.  I have a mother that her world is torn apart. We at the Madera Police Department have re-assured her and her family, and our community that we will do everything within our power to bring closure to this case", said Chief Lawson.  Lawson says this is a gang related shooting.  The father has ties to gangs, and the older son is a confirmed gang member. There is no word on a motive for this shooting.  The suspects remain on the loose.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Madera Police Department, or  Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP.
