Boy's Santa wish granted for dad to come home from overseas

WARREN COUNTY, OHIO - A 7-year-old Ohio boy wrote a letter to Santa Claus asking for his dad to come home from serving in the military -- and his wish was granted.

Second grader James Croot wrote the letter because it sounded like a job for Santa.

"I just want to write you this card and tell you that I miss you, and I wish you could come home for Christmas," James wrote.

His dad, Staff Sgt. Aaron Croot, had been deployed overseas.

"I didn't know about the letter until I got home. She told me, 'He wrote a letter to you.' I had to hold back tears myself," Aaron said.

On Saturday, James read his letter at a school concert, and -- unbeknownst to him -- his dad was standing just off stage ready to surprise him.

"He's written letters talked about the things he wants to do with daddy when he gets home being that it's close to Christmas and he saw Santa last week he had that in his mind," James' mother Megan said.

For young James, he knows dreams can come true -- especially with a little help from you know who.
