Gas station clerk shot and killed near Madera

Robbery turns deadly

MADERA, California - Sheriff's deputies are investigating the murder of a gas station clerk.

Investigators say the man was killed Monday night, while working at the Tackle Box gas station on Road 26 near Madera.

Deputies say it was a robbery gone bad.

Surveillance video shows two men going into the store, just before eleven o'clock Monday night.

The suspects stole two large boxes of cigarettes and then fired several shots.

Investigators say the clerk was shot and killed.

One of the suspects was wearing a black jacket, gray pants, and socks, without any shoes.

He had a blue bandana over his face.

The other suspect was wearing a black Reebok sweatshirt, black pants, black and white shoes, with a white bandana over his face.

He was armed with a silver revolver.

Investigators say both suspects were wearing gloves.

An eyewitness who called for help, found the clerk dead in the store.

Sheriff Jay Varney is asking anyone with information on the deadly robbery to contact the Madera County Sheriff's Office.
