Authorities search for inmate who escapes Mariposa County facility

MARIPOSA COUNTY, Calif. - Authorities are searching for a prisoner who escaped a minimum-security facility in Mariposa County on Monday, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) said.

Blake Castro, 31, walked away from the Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) Mount Bullion Conservation Camp (CC #39).

The CDCR, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire), law enforcement personnel, the California Highway Patrol and local law enforcement agencies have been notified and are assisting in the search for Castro.

Castro is white, 5-foot-9, 240 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. He has a tattoo of Chinese writing on his right forearm, CDCR said.

He was sent to the facility from Fresno County to serve a four-year sentence for domestic violence, CDCR said. He was scheduled to be released in November 2018.

Anyone who sees Castro should call 911 or law enforcement immediately.

Anyone with information about the location of Castro should contact the Mount Bullion Conservation Camp Commander at (209) 742-5494 or the SCC Watch Commander at (209) 984-5291, extension 5439.
