Great news for those who are looking for a job. Amazon's Fresno distribution center is now accepting online applications for hundreds of job openings.
Construction is still underway at the 855,000 square feet Amazon distribution center located near Central and Orange ave in southwest Fresno. Although the online retail giant has not announced when the center will open, it is expected to be up and running by the end of summer.
"You'll have benefits that start day one; 401k, parental leave, and we also prepay tuition for in-demand fields," said Amazon representative Lauren Lynch.
The company has started accepting online applications for hundreds of jobs. Eventually the warehouse could employ up to 1,500 people. Warehouse associate jobs start at $11.75 per hour.
Amazon says starting pay can go up once an employee gets their foot in the door.
"Starting on Amazon fulfillment can be an opportunity for a career and other parts of Amazon business," stated Lynch.
Valley leaders say the Amazon center is exactly what the city needed.
"Initially, we're going to have hundreds of jobs, 15-hundred by the time it gets fully built; out that's a big game changer for the city of Fresno," said Fresno City Councilmen Luis Chavez.
Valley residents say they remain optimistic about this new addition to Fresno.
"I think its great. I thinks it's going to provide a lot of opportunities for young people to work in various departments," said Fresno resident Carol Roberts.
You must be 18 years of age to apply and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
