9 puppies found abandoned next to trash cans in Madera

MADERA, California - Nine puppies were found abandoned in a box next to trash cans Tuesday night, the Madera Police Department said.

Around 10 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the southeast business parking lot in the 1500 block of E. Yosemite for a report of a dog barking -- and the sound possibly coming from inside a trash can.

When the officer arrived, he located the source of the sound coming from a car wash stall.

The officer found nine puppies abandoned in a cardboard box with trash cans making a makeshift pen.

Anyone who has information on who left the puppies there should contact Madera's Animal Control officers at (559) 675-4220.

The puppies were turned over to the Madera County Animal Shelter. Anyone who wants information on adoption can call (559) 675-7891.
