2 dead, 1 injured after police pursuit crash in Porterville

PORTERVILLE, California - Two people are dead and a third in critical condition after a police pursuit resulted in a collision. 

Lindsay Police say they received a report from administrators at J. J. Cairns High School about suspicious gang members who had inquired the whereabouts of one of the students on campus. Police say one of the suspects was armed with a knife.

Police located the suspect's vehicle, a maroon Nissan Altima, parked next to the school. When officers tried to contact them the suspects fled away. 

A high-speed pursuit ensued, which took officers from the City of Lindsey to the City of Porterville. 

Police say the occupants in the suspect vehicle were throwing items out of the vehicle on multiple occasions.

Lindsey Police requested assistance from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office and CHP.

Once Lindsay Police entered the City of Porterville they called off their chase for public safety reasons. The vehicle continued driving at a high rate of speed; at the intersection of Plano and Olive ave the car failed to stop for the red light and clipped a Dodge Ram truck and struck the light pole.

Police tell us one of the three occupants in the Altima was ejected. The driver of the suspect vehicle died at the scene, another suspect was taken to Sierra View Hospital where he later died. The third suspect fled on foot but was apprehend by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office; that suspect is in critical condition. 

The occupants in the other car were treated at the scene, they were not seriously injured.
