A man in his early 20s has died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a pickup truck.
It happened around Wednesday afternoon at Minnewawa and Ninth in
“The motorcycle was completely engulfed in flames and the rider had been ejected from the motorcycle,” said Sgt. Jim Koch with the Clovis Police Department.
A viewer snapped this photo of the aftermath. The bike caught fire after the wreck. The motorcycle ended up in three pieces from the impact: a tire separate from the frame and the battery ended up at least ten feet from the other wreckage.
CBS47 has learned the rider of the motorcycle, a man in his early 20s, was on his way to work at a nearby pizza parlor. He was running a few minutes late.
“It appears there was obviously one or both of the vehicles was traveling at a speed that caused a great amount of damage,” Sgt. Koch said.
Apartments line this stretch of Minnewawa.
Those who live here say drivers often speed on this stretch of road.
“They pretty much run through here at sixty seventy miles and hour,” said Angel Vasquez.
Angel and his neighbors would like to see drivers slow down.
“I hope we do get a crosswalk through here or signs that say 40 miles an hour instead of going sixty to seventy miles an hour,” Vasquez said.
The police department's collision reconstruction unit is at the scene to piece together exactly what happened.
