Violent Attack Caught on Camera Outside Fresno Bar Leads to Arrest of Suspects
A violent gang-related attack caught on camera outside a Fresno bar led to the arrest of several suspects, according to Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.
On March 7, a disturbance inside the Crossroads bar continued out in the parking lot where police say two innocent victims were attacked by Bulldog gang members.
In a press conference Thursday, Dyer announced the arrest of Apolinio Martinez, 40; Daniel Telles, 25; Christopher Martinez, Jr., 21; and Christopher Martinez, Sr., 42.
Police say the video of the beating posted to Facebook led them to the suspects. Police conducted probation checks then served search warrants Wednesday and arrested the suspects.
"Social media was very, very helpful in this case. And we continue to monitor social media every single day," Dyer says.
Police say the suspects are also part of a new motorcycle gang that police first learned about in late January.
"We identified 15 individuals that are part of the Malos Hechos gang, or motorcycle club, and seven of those individuals are validated Bulldogs," Dyer says.
Dyer says the Crossroads bar has been a magnet for gang members and gang activity recently.
But some say it's a different crowd during the day, and the recent violence hadn't deterred them from visiting the bar.
"I don't come out at night. I'd like to stay alive for a while," says Mark, a bar patron who would only provide his first name.
He says during the day, he feels safe coming to the bar.
According to Dyer, violent comes in Fresno have decreased by 13 percent compared to last year.
He says these arrests are a result of ongoing efforts to target violence in the city.
"But we will continue to focus on the Bulldog gang, and we're going to continue to focus on every gang in this community that is active and violent," Dyer says.
Police say the man who was severely beaten is recovering and was left with a scar on his head.
While serving these search warrants, police arrested another man and woman on unrelated weapons and narcotics charges.
In late March, a shooting at the Crossroads bar left a 28-year-old woman dead. The suspect has not been arrested.
