St. Louis Rams draft TJ McDonald

Edison High grad TJ McDonald is on his way to St. Louis after the Rams drafted him Friday with the 71st overall pick.

It's a small world out there.

Jeff Fisher is the head coach of the St. Louis Rams. 20 years ago, he was the defensive backs coach in San Francisco, where he coached Tim McDonald.

Now, he'll be coaching McDonald's son, TJ.

The Rams drafted TJ McDonald in the third round Friday with the 71st overall pick. McDonald, an Edison High grad, was an all-American at USC and led the Trojans last year in tackles.

"Words can't express how I'm feelin right now," he tweeted. "Thanks to the entire #Rams organization. Can't wait to get on the field!"

"TJ is a big safety that moves well, that covers, that will run and hit and he knows football. He's very very smart," said Fisher. "He's a good football player and that was a hold-your-breath pick because we were a little bit nervous."
