In a tragic story out of Santa Clara County, three teens are in custody in a sexual assault that may have caused a suicide.
15-year-old Audrie Pott took her own life after pictures of her being sexually assaulted were posted on the internet.
As reporter Da Lyn explains, the girl's family says their daughter might be alive today if not for the photos.
Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith would like to see the teens charged as adults, but says it's ultimately up to the District Attorney.
The sheriff believes what the 16-year-old suspects did after they sexually assaulted Audrie Pott led her to hang herself.
Deputies arrested two boys on Thursday at Saratoga High School. They also picked up the third boy at a Gilroy high school, where he recently transferred.
The sheriff says the crime actually happened back in September at a house party. Detectives say Pott was intoxicated and unconscious when the three boys raped her and took pictures of the attack. A few days after those pictures went viral among the student body and online, Pott committed suicide.
Pott's family went public with the story and say they also want the boys charged as adults.
It's not the first for this type of crime. A judge convicted two Ohio Teens of rape last month after they assault an intoxicated girl and posted video of the attack on social media.
The three teens will be in court on Tuesday and the Pott family will also hold a press conference then as well.
