California lawmakers have more than 31,000 signatures on a petition in support of the Life Act, a package of 8 gun control bills aimed at beefing up gun regulations in California.
Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg of Sacramento said, "This morning we stand here united with one purpose. That purpose is to do everything we can to lesson the carnage on our streets and on our neighborhoods that is the daily result of gun violence."
Jake McGuigan, director of state affairs for the National Shooting Sports Foundation said, "I believe that the package that they are putting forward will not make the residents of California any safer. It's not going to do anything to decrease crime."
The focus on gun control comes during the same week of the anniversaries of the Virginia Tech and Columbine High School mass shootings.
