Hmong Community Unites for Civic Engagement
Fresno, CA - On Saturday, August 10 at 10 a.m., hundreds of Hmong community members from across Fresno County will be attending a community forum in the Industry Commerce Building at the Fresno Fair Grounds to talk about Comprehensive Immigration Reform, the Affordable Care Act, and Civic Engagement. The event is hosted by a coalition group of Fresno area community based organizations.
The coalition will hold a press conference in front of The Fresno Center for New Americans on August 7 at 9 a.m. This press conference will highlight the upcoming community forum "Our Voice is Our Power" or "Peb Lub Suab Yog Peb Lub Zog" on August 10 at 10 a.m. The community forum will open discussion on Comprehensive Immigration Reform, the Affordable Care Act, and Civic Engagement specific to the Hmong community in Fresno County.
Fresno City Council Member Blong Xiong will be speaking at the community forum about civic engagement and the importance of the "Hmong Voice" in Fresno County. The community forum is a family friendly event and will raise civic awareness while providing a space for fruitful dialogue on how to move forward together.
