Tropical Storm Andrea

The first Tropical Storm of the Atlantic hurricane season heads for Florida.
The first Tropical Storm of the Atlantic hurricane season heads for Florida tonight and is forecast to move over the state Thursday afternoon.

On Wednesday winds in the storm reached a steady 40 mph and a reconnaissance aircraft
found an area of circulation (a storm center) near the western edge of a large mass of thunderstorms west of Florida.

Check out the National Hurricane Center's website at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/?atlc for the latest forecast information and Tropical Storm warnings.

Andrea is expected to remain a tropical storm as it moves over Florida and is not forecast to gain strength and become a hurricane.

The storm is still forecast to produce very heavy rain, and a storm surge at the coast along with lightning and possibly tornadoes on Thursday.
