Mariano not surprised on late call-up for Pill

Fresno Grizzlies manager Bob Mariano said on Thursday he was not surprised it took as long as it did for the San Francisco Giants to call up Brett Pill.
When the Fresno Grizzlies returned home on Wednesday, Brett Pill wasn't with them.

Pill was called up to San Francisco on Monday after his .341 batting average, 9 home runs, and 47 RBI (which led all of professional baseball) was too much for the Giants to ignore anymore.

However, Grizzlies manager Bob Mariano said on Thursday he wasn't surprised it took as long as it did for the Giants to recall the slugging first baseman.

"Not really," said Mariano. "You're talking about a World Series championship team that we had out there. We won the World Series two out of the last three years. He got off to a great start and I just told him to just keep having good at-bats and have some fun down here. The rest is out of his control.

"Fortunately, he got called up and hopefully he'll get some at-bats up there."

Pill is 0-for-1 with an RBI in two appearances since being called up.
