Bryson Dechambeau didn't win the 86th annual Fresno City Amateur, but he was certainly in contention.
Dechambeau, a graduate of Clovis East High School, just wrapped up his freshman year at SMU where he had five top-five finishes and was named Conference USA's Freshman of the Year.
Dechambeau has his sights set on competing in next month's U.S. Open. In exactly one week, he will tee off at Lakewood Country Club in Dallas, Texas in a sectional qualifier.
"It's a great golf course," he said. "I've played there a couple of times. Our golf team has been fortunate enough to go out there."
Despite his busy schedule, Bryson Dechambeau said he did watch the Wells Fargo Championship earlier this month when his friend (and fellow ex-Clovis East Timberwolf) Derek Ernst won his first PGA Tour event.
"I'm very excited for him," said Dechambeau. "It was awesome, couldn't be happier for him."
